Residents are often attracted to family medicine because of their interest in the general well-being of individuals and families. In the Lincoln Family Medicine Program, the Behavioral Health curriculum helps residents develop the ability to manage a busy medical practice which includes addressing not only the physical concerns of your patients, but understanding and treating the patient within a biopsychosocial model of care.
The Behavioral Health curriculum is infused throughout the three years of residency, and is built on an integrative model of care. Behavioral Health psychologists/therapists work closely with family physicians in the primary care clinic to increase accessibility of services to patients, as well as provide valuable educational opportunities for residents. The curriculum is comprehensive and employs many varied teaching strategies, including dual interviews, direct observation, video review, noon conferences, didactics, and consultation. It also includes the Resident Wellness Curriculum, an empirically derived program created specifically to assist physicians reduce burnout, depression, anxiety, and increase empathy.
Meet the Staff
Kelly Brey-Love, Ph.D.
Kelly Brey Love Ph.D., is a Licensed Psychologist who earned her Ph.D. in School Psychology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Dr. Love (yes, this is her real name!) completed her internship in Clinical Psychology at McLean Psychiatric Hospital/Harvard Medical School, and her Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Clinical Psychology at Texas Children’s Hospital/Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Love is currently the Director of the Lincoln Behavioral Health Center, and is a faculty member of the Lincoln Family Medicine Program. Dr. Love enjoys spending time outside with her family and practicing yoga.
Tyne Muggy, MA, LMHP, PLADC
Tyne graduated with distinction from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a double major in Psychology and Sociology. She went on to attain a Master of Arts in Mental Health Counseling from Doane College of Lincoln. Professional interests include integrated primary care for patients across the lifespan. Tyne pursued additional training in peripartum mental health and has a special passion for work with obstetric patients. She enjoys the arts, eating good food, spending time in nature, relaxing with loved ones, and snuggling up with her feisty cat, Frida. She admires the words of legendary Renaissance artist Michelangelo who at the advanced age of 87 is believed to have uttered the words: “Ancora imparo. [I am still learning]”. Tyne is dedicated to continual growth as a clinician and an educator. She loves her work as behavioral health faculty where she is able to both increase awareness of mental health issues and encourage collaborative healthcare practices.
Karla Wiedel, MA, LIMHP, LADC
Karla Wiedel is a Licensed Independent Mental Health Practitioner and a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor. She graduated with a Bachelor’s of Arts in Psychology from University of Nebraska at Kearney. She went on to obtain a Master’s of Arts in Clinical Psychology from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. Karla has worked in a non-profit community behavioral health setting for the vast majority of her 14-year career as a therapist. She has additional training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), The Matrix Model, and has a special interest in the field of Neuropsychology. Karla enjoys working with a wide variety of people across the lifespan who struggle with mental health, trauma and/or addiction issues. Outside of work, Karla enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, going to amusement parks and spinning.
