Dr. Mike Myers received his degree in sociology from UN-Kearney.  He later finished his pre-med training there while working for Eaton Corporation as a production manager prior to medical school at UNMC. He joined the faculty after practicing in Scottsbluff, NE. Mike is a movie buff - especially sci-fi, and he reads everything Tom Clancy writes. He says his greatest accomplishment is raising three kids with his wife Carol.  "Children are much harder (and more expensive) than med school ever was."

Dr. Les Veskrna has been on the faculty at LMEP since 1991. He was a psychology major at Nebraska Wesleyan University, and a Physicians Assistant prior to his medical training at UNMC. He is the regular host of our Journal Clubs, and has a professional interest in evidence-based research in primary care.  Les is an excellent cook. He likes to prepare oriental and Middle Eastern dishes. We always appreciate when he brings a batch of his chili for lunch at our noon conference.


Hal Pumphrey, MD, ABFP

Dr. Hal Pumphrey is a graduate of NWU and UNMC and also one of the first residents in this program. Now he is our geriatrics guru and medical director at Lancaster Manor where the majority of our nursing home patients reside. He has 18 years of practice experience prior to joining our faculty in 1995. He enjoys traveling and will be happy to show you pictures of his recent trip to Yellowstone. His other interests are aviation and national politics. Oh, and if you want to get on his good side, ask him about his 4 kids and 1 (so far) grandson.


Richard Gustafson, MD, ABFP

Dr. Rick Gustafson hails from Minnesota where he attended med school and had a rural practice for 10 years. His wife Sue is a retired attorney and now a full time grandmother in Lincoln. Gus is an avid hunter, and is proud of his two Vizslas. Gus displayed his singing talent in a recent production of The Music Man.


Ron Craig, MD, ABFP

Dr. Ron Craig has been with the LMEP program in some fashion since its inception. He started in 1975 as a volunteer faculty and is one of the original authors of the ATLS course. Ron is a pilot and past president of the Flying Physicians Association. Dr. Craig organizes the Canadian Conference annually, assuring high-quality speakers and beautiful scenery for those who attend. He is actively involved in our 501 club.


Kyle Haefele, MD, ABFP

Dr. Kyle Haefele graduated from Washburn University of Topeka with a BA in Psychology and attended the University of Oklahoma for medical school. As an OU grad, Dr. Haefele is living proof you don't have to be a Husker fan to love Lincoln. He comes to us from Shenandoah, IA where he practiced for seven years. He enjoys playing tennis and piano. He organizes the LFMP fantasy football league each fall. Kyle enjoys spending time with his wife Tracy, and two kids Carey and Chandler.


Robert Rauner, MD, ABFP

Dr. Bob Rauner grew up in Sidney, Nebraska. He has a BA in Plilosophy from Creighton University, an MD from the University of Nebraska College of Medicine, and completed his residency here at LFMP. He worked in Sidney for five years with his wife, Lisa, prior to returning to join the faculty. His wife, Lisa, is also a family medicine physician in Lincoln. They spend as much time as possible with their three daughters. His academic interests are in preventive medicine, public health, and medical ethics.


Timothy Dalton, MD, ABFP

Dr. Tim Dalton is the newest addition to our faculty from private practice in Marysville, KS. He attended Benedictine College in Atchinson, KS and claims to be famous for being their first ever biochemistry grad. He attended UNMC medical school in Omaha. His professional interests include teaching endoscopy, and the colonoscopy simulator in his office is not only educational, but fun when you turn up the volume. He and his wife Carolyn have 5 kids.

Dr. Laurel Van Ham received her PhD in psychology from UNL. She keeps residents focused on their goals in their personal lives and gets them to "stay human" through residency. Se loves to cook, eat and read. She and her husband, Tom, each have two grown children and together have two young cats. They are in the process of fixing up an old house built in 1912, and an older yard (which was there long before the house.) Laurel is very active in her church and chairs a national organization called Faith at Work.


Jim Naeve, CMPE

Jim, our business manager, grew up on a ranch near Ord, served in Vietnam as a hospital corpsman in the United States Navy, trained as a lab tech, and gained knowledge of healthcare in subsequent medical administratirve roles. He even managed to squeeze in four months living in Nicaragua after helping a couple retire there. He readily admits that his wife, Linda, "Has the green thumb," whether in their yard or in raising their three daughters. Family, including six grandsons and one granddaughter, consumes much of their time, but Jim manages to split the remainder among golf, hunting and working in his woodshop, in addition to reading good mysteries. Just don't be surprised if he speaks a bit proudly of his granddaughter's talents on the volleyball court - after all, she is 6'1".
