Clerkship in Family Medicine – Lincoln Family Medicine Program

The Lincoln Family Medicine Program offers clerkships for 4th year medical students who want a concentrated experience in Family Medicine. Students are given the opportunity to follow their own schedule of ambulatory patients, round on hospital patients, attend deliveries, and visit specialties of interest while on rotation in Lincoln.

Work hours are from 8am -5pm Monday through Friday with optional night and weekend hours for those learning opportunities, such as obstetrics or emergency room work that may be more common after hours.

Housing is generally provided to students who need a place to stay during their time in Lincoln. Lunch is provided each day at the noon lecture at the Family Medicine Center.

Here are some of the things previous students have said about their rotation in Lincoln:

The strongest part is that you get to do clinic here without someone standing over your shoulder. I had my own patients, and they looked at me like I really was their doctor.
I have more independence here. Usually I’m just going to talk to someone about what I’d do. Whereas here I’m actually doing it.
Everybody should do their rotation here because it would give them great clinical experience!
You staff with attendings that are easy to talk to. It’s like being in a residency program, where I could build my confidence and clinical skills. I knew the material but this increased my confidence a great deal in diagnosing patients.
I especially liked doing athletic medicine with Dr. Hollibaugh at UNL. We saw the Huskers’ practice facilities, which are very impressive.
It’s a very conducive learning environment.
