Top Reasons to Rank Lincoln Family Medicine Residency Program #1

Congratulations on your success making it through the 2021 ERAS Interview season – virtually – during a global pandemic!

We can only imagine the difficulty of trying to choose the right training program and location to fit your needs for your Family Medicine education – for the next three years of your life – to prepare you for your future career!

Here are five of the many reasons Lincoln Family Medicine Residents would rank their program #1 if they had to do it all over again.

1. Robust Training – Clinical, Procedural, and Didactic – and Supportive Environment

From the first week of residency, the residents at Lincoln Family Medicine are not only learning in classroom and hospital settings, but they are also putting into practice their medical training as they care for patients at Lincoln Family Medicine Center, a comprehensive family medicine clinic.

Residents enjoy a supportive team-based care setting where they provide care to a diverse panel of continuity patients. One-to-one interactions with faculty and a supportive patient-centered staff help residents grow in their education and afford the opportunity to make real differences daily in patients’ lives and health. From newborn to geriatric care, from procedures to practice management, Lincoln Family Medicine residents experience it all and feel prepared to enter practice.

The faculty highly values the didactics program, and offers Noon conferences nearly every day of the week. They also provide masters classes, Wednesday workshops, hands-on procedural skills, and other educational endeavors.

To be a full-scope family doctor, residents must practice all areas of medicine – obstetric care, neonatal care, pediatric care, general medicine, and geriatric care. That’s one of the great things about Lincoln Family Medicine. Residents get to practice in all areas and in all settings, including home, clinic, hospitals, and rural communities.

THIS PROGRAM TRAINS RESIDENTS TO WALK OUT OF RESIDENCY AND DIRECTLY INTO ANY FAMILY MEDICINE PRACTICE.

– Dr. J. P. Price, Third-year Resident

2. Personalization: Ability to Personalize Training

One of the many beauties of Family Medicine practice is the ability to shape a personalized future. Lincoln Family Medicine Program residents not only exceed ACGME guidelines in patient care and educational experiences, they also have the opportunity to enhance their focus and training in specific areas of Family Medicine including Obstetrics and Endoscopy, to name a few. Lincoln Family Medicine allows residents the ability to craft their own path as they determine what their private practice will look like. With over 40 electives to choose from, our residents are fully supported in their journey to enhance their residency experience.

Faculty advisors guide each resident in his/her own personalized education plan and help residents discover opportunities for both personal and professional growth.

IF YOU ARE PASSIONATE ABOUT SOMETHING AND YOU ARE WILLING TO PUT IN THE WORK, THERE IS NOTHING STOPPING YOU FROM PURSUING IT. I LOVE OB AND HAVE BEEN ABLE TO DELIVER 50+ BABIES ALREADY, AND THAT WAS JUST THE FIRST 6 MONTHS."

Dr. Abra Robbins, Third-year Resident

3. Real Life: Rural Training

Lincoln Family Medicine Program offers realistic experience for rural, full-scope medicine in the context of a training program. Our residents value the supported autonomy in patient care, the continuity relationships they develop with their patients in all care settings, and the opportunity to experience, real-time, their role as a full-scope Family Medicine physician.

A dedicated rural rotation allows our residents to embed as a physician in a rural community throughout Nebraska during their second or third year. This formative time offers the ability to implement a broad range of skills and experience first-hand what their own practice could encompass.

Rural mentorships allow opportunities to develop lifelong partnerships with Family Medicine colleagues throughout the midwest.

Lincoln Family Medicine, in partnership with Heartland Health Alliance, offers residents the opportunity to take part in a Rural Loan Reinvestment and Repayment program if it fits their needs and desires.

4. Opportunity: Unopposed Residency Program in a Great City

Lincoln Family Medicine Program is the ONLY residency program in Lincoln, Nebraska, allowing residents to feel supported in learning to care for their patients in the inpatient setting. With more than 300 volunteer clinical faculty in both hospital and clinic settings throughout the city, our residents collaborate with specialists to focus on both their subspecialty medical knowledge and their ability to coordinate care as a valued physician in the community. With their sights set on future career goals, ample elective time offers the opportunity for residents to personalize and optimize learning opportunities.

LINCOLN FAMILY MEDICINE PROGRAM IS AN UNOPPOSED RESIDENCY PROGRAM WITH TONS OF ELECTIVE OPPORTUNITIES TO PERSONALIZE YOUR TRAINING TO YOUR FUTURE PRACTICE GOALS.
