Hunter Allen, MD

Hunter Allen, MD
Second-year Resident

Though his initial desire for pursuing a career in medicine stemmed from a summer job at an orthopedic spine clinic during high school, Hunter Allen, MD, didn’t realize this would be a vocation until he had a job driving a school bus. He realized that the responsibility of caring for the well-being of human life is something he considers to be sacred and the greatest honor he could ever have.

Dr. Allen is from Dallas, Texas but now calls Nebraska his home. He attended Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska where he received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. He continued at Creighton University School of Medicine and obtained his Doctor of Medicine. Additionally, Dr. Allen received an M.S. in Biomedical Science from Regis University in Denver, Colorado.

After completing a family medicine clerkship and a sub-internship in North Platte, Nebraska during medical school, Dr. Allen discovered that he enjoyed the variety of clinical opportunities family medicine offered in a rural setting including clinic, inpatient hospital care, obstetrics, endoscopies, and procedures. Continuity of relationships developed through family medicine and being part of a patient’s continual care was key to helping him decide to become a family medicine physician. Dr. Allen knew Lincoln Family Residency Program had a reputation for consistent excellence in training robust, well-rounded physicians. During his interview, he was allowed to work with some of the residents and faculty for a few days and was treated as a member of the family, not as an applicant. He saw a group of physicians who loved their job and loved working with each other, and he knew this was where he wanted to be.

Dr. Allen likes to remind his patients to spend a few moments each evening recalling their day, finding gratitude for the moments in which they smiled and/or someone did something, albeit great or small, for them. Following his residency, Dr. Allen wants to practice full-spectrum family medicine in the North Platte area. With time, he would also like to become a faculty member at Creighton University School of Medicine and mentor medical students.

Dr. Allen says his late father is his role model and responsible for instilling strong values that help him be a compassionate physician. In his free time, Dr. Allen can be found on his bike exploring Lincoln’s incredible trails. He’s also a licensed pyrotechnician and has been known to put on quite the show on July 4th!
