Lexia Zenger, MD
Second-year Resident

Lexia Zenger, MD, had always considered becoming a doctor, but it wasn’t until she was in college and was able to shadow physicians that she made the final decision to pursue medicine as a career. Her experiences in college offered her great exposure to many aspects of healthcare, including being able to help deliver an infant and observing emergency situations in a rural ED. Dr. Zenger attended Kansas State University in Manhattan where she received her Bachelor of Science in Psychology. She earned her Medical Degree from The University of Kansas School of Medicine in Kansas City.

Practicing medicine in a rural area and raising a family are two reasons why Dr. Zenger chose family medicine as her specialty. The full scope of illnesses and ages of patients offers her the greatest opportunities to care for the life-long medical needs of patients. She decided to do her residency at Lincoln Family Medicine Residency Program as it allows her to tailor her education and receive hands-on training in specific procedures that she hopes to provide in her future practice. Dr. Zenger also felt the faculty in Lincoln were genuinely invested in helping make her residency what she wanted. Living in a great town like Lincoln where she could start her family was a plus. After residency, Dr. Zenger wants to practice family medicine, with an emphasis on women's health/OB and pediatrics, in a rural community near her hometown of Belleville, Kansas.

Dr. Zenger knows the importance of building a high level of trust with her patients. Her advice is that they not be afraid to mention the details that may seem silly – if something's bothering them, there's usually a reason.

For her role models, Dr. Zenger has always looked to her parents who showed her how to create a good work/life balance that was family centered. They taught her what hard work, healthy relationships, and genuine fun and enjoyment looked like. They encouraged her to pursue her career goals for her own happiness.

Dr. Zenger and her husband, Dustin, just welcomed their first child – daughter Etta – who was born in March, 2022. She enjoys baking, traveling, playing board games, reading, and taking walks with their two fur babies, Sissy, a Border Collie and Chip, a rescue mix.
